How the PS5 Pro overheating repair works
- Send in or book a pickupShip the PS5 Pro from anywhere in Austria, or use the Vienna pickup service. A short note about when the console shuts down helps us.
- Open up and expose the vapor chamberWe strip the PS5 Pro housing, inspect the vapor chamber system and check the state of the thermal paste.
- Replace the thermal pasteWe remove every trace of the old paste between the APU and the vapor chamber and apply a fresh, high-grade thermal compound.
- Clean the vapor chamber and fanWe clear dust from the vapor chamber surface and the cooling fins, fully disassemble the fan and deep-clean it.
- Stress test and returnWe push the PS5 Pro under full load, log the temperatures, then deliver it back in Vienna or ship it insured.
Why the PS5 Pro overheats — and what is different from the Standard PS5
The PS5 Pro has a noticeably more powerful GPU than the Standard PS5. More compute means more waste heat. Sony switched the PS5 Pro (CFI-7000) to a vapor chamber cooling system instead of the conventional heatsink with liquid metal used in the Standard PS5. The vapor chamber spreads heat across a wider area and moves it away more efficiently. But once dust blocks the system or the thermal paste between the APU and the vapor chamber ages out, the cooling capacity drops below what the chip needs.
Vapor chamber vs liquid metal — the key difference
The Standard PS5 uses liquid metal (an indium-gallium alloy) directly on the APU. It's efficient but carries a risk of seeping onto the board. The PS5 Pro relies on a conventional thermal paste paired with a vapor chamber instead. No leak risk, but the paste can dry out over time and needs to be replaced professionally. If you own a Standard PS5, you need a different treatment — refresh the liquid metal, not the paste.
Why the PS5 Pro overheats faster than the Standard PS5
Higher GPU clocks, more shader units, heavier ray-tracing workloads — it all adds up. Even small amounts of dust inside the vapor chamber can eat into the PS5 Pro's thermal headroom. On the Standard PS5 the same dust load would not be a problem yet. That's why regular service matters more for the Pro version.
Repair or buy a new PS5 Pro?
A new PS5 Pro is around EUR 800. For EUR 99 Reparo fixes the overheating for good — with fresh thermal paste and a cleaned vapor chamber the console runs at the temperatures it had on day one. Every piece of data, every save and every installed game stays exactly where it is.
PS5 Pro overheating — frequently asked questions
How much does a PS5 Pro overheating repair cost at Reparo?
EUR 99 flat. That covers the vapor chamber service, fresh thermal paste, a fan deep-clean, cleaning of the cooling system and a full-load stress test. No hidden extras.
Why is the PS5 Pro repair more expensive than the Standard PS5 one?
The PS5 Pro is more involved to strip down and uses a vapor chamber instead of a conventional heatsink. Servicing the vapor chamber system takes more steps than refreshing the liquid metal on the Standard PS5 (EUR 89).
Does the PS5 Pro use liquid metal like the Standard PS5?
No. The PS5 Pro (CFI-7000) does not use liquid metal. Sony moved to a vapor chamber cooling system with a high-grade thermal paste. That removes the seep risk of the Standard PS5 but needs a different service routine.
What exactly is a vapor chamber?
A flat, hermetically sealed copper chamber filled with a tiny amount of coolant. Heat from the GPU vaporises the liquid, the vapour spreads evenly and condenses again at cooler areas. That moves heat across the full surface — more efficient than a classic heatsink.
Why does the PS5 Pro overheat faster than the Standard PS5?
The PS5 Pro has a stronger GPU with higher clocks and more compute units. Under load that means a lot more waste heat. Even small amounts of dust inside the vapor chamber can eat the thermal reserve — the same dust load on a Standard PS5 would not be a problem yet.
My PS5 Pro is only a few months old and already loud — is that normal?
Some fan noise under load is normal. If the fan stays at maximum permanently or the console shuts down, something is off. Causes range from dust pulled in by the environment, to thermal paste applied unevenly at the factory, to a faulty fan. We diagnose it as part of the repair.
Can I send the PS5 Pro in for repair?
Yes — ship it from anywhere in Austria. Pack it well and include a short description of the fault. In Vienna we also offer pickup. Book a slot and drop off in the 22nd district, have it picked up, or send it in: all three routes are open.
Are all data and saves preserved after the repair?
Yes. The 2 TB SSD inside the PS5 Pro is never touched during the overheating repair. Installed games, saves, profiles and settings remain exactly as they were.
How long does the PS5 Pro overheating repair take?
2–4 hours once we have the console. That covers stripping the housing, the vapor chamber service, fresh paste, fan cleaning and the closing stress test under full load.
Is there a warranty on the PS5 Pro overheating repair?
Yes, 6-month warranty on every step we perform. If the overheating returns during that window, we put it right at no charge.
Can I clean the vapor chamber system myself?
We don't recommend it. The vapor chamber is fragile and the PS5 Pro housing needs specific tools to open. Thermal paste has to be applied evenly and in the right quantity — mistakes worsen cooling instead of improving it.
What is the difference between PS5 Pro cleaning and the overheating repair?
Cleaning (EUR 69) is preventive — remove dust, inspect the vapor chamber, check the thermal paste. The overheating repair (EUR 99) is the fix once the PS5 Pro is already shutting down: the thermal paste is replaced completely, the vapor chamber is serviced intensively and the fan is deep-cleaned.
Will I lose my Sony warranty by having Reparo do the repair?
Inside the EU a manufacturer cannot refuse the warranty just because of a third-party repair. As long as the work is done correctly and causes no damage, your warranty claim remains valid. Reparo documents every step cleanly.
Is the repair worth it or should I just buy a new PS5 Pro?
A new PS5 Pro is around EUR 800. The overheating repair at Reparo is EUR 99 and brings the console back to factory-fresh temperatures. For a console that's otherwise healthy and only has a thermal issue, repair is the clearly economical call.
Can overheating damage the PS5 Pro permanently?
Yes. Sustained high temperatures can weaken the solder joints on the mainboard and in the worst case lead to BLOD (Blue Light of Death). The sooner the overheating is fixed, the smaller the risk of permanent damage.
