PS5 DualSense stick drift – causes and solution
Stick drift is a well-known problem on the DualSense: the analog stick sends inputs even though you're not touching it – characters move on their own, the camera drifts away. The cause lies in the stick module itself, which changes mechanically through wear. Sony has been criticised repeatedly for this, because the sticks wear out early.
Original DualSense sticks or third-party?
Original Sony analog sticks are barely available as individual spare parts. We use high-quality third-party stick modules developed specifically for the DualSense, which in practice show equal or better durability. These come with the full 6-month warranty.
DualSense adaptive trigger – what if the trigger mechanism breaks?
The DualSense adaptive triggers (L2/R2) have a resistance mechanism that can break mechanically. If a trigger suddenly has no resistance or jams, it's repairable – just ask us about it beforehand and we'll calculate it separately.
Repair or buy a new controller?
Stick drift is a manufacturing problem of the DualSense – a new controller can start drifting again just as quickly. We replace the stick module with a high-quality spare part. For €39–59 instead of €70–90 for a new controller.
Frequently asked questions about PS5 controller repair
What does the PS5 controller repair cost at Reparo?
Stick drift (1 stick): from €39. Both sticks: from €59. Single button: from €29. Charging port: from €39. Battery: from €35. We confirm the exact price before the repair begins.
Is the repair worth it or should I buy a new controller?
A new DualSense costs €70–80. Repairing stick drift on one stick costs from €39 – that almost always pays off. With several simultaneous defects we calculate fairly and tell you honestly if a new purchase would make more sense.
How long does the PS5 DualSense repair take?
Usually 1–3 hours from arrival. More complex combined defects (drift + button + battery) can take up to half a day. We give you a precise time estimate on arrival.
Can I send the controller in by post?
Yes. Wrap the controller well in bubble wrap and send it by post. Alternatively, use the pickup service in Vienna – we collect the controller and bring it back repaired.
Does Reparo also repair the DualSense adaptive triggers?
Yes, in most cases. The trigger mechanism can be repaired or replaced if it's broken or jamming. Just ask us beforehand about the exact defect – we'll give you an assessment.
What is stick drift on the PS5 DualSense?
Stick drift means the character in the game moves on its own in one direction even though you're not touching the stick. The cause is wear on the Hall sensor or ingressed dirt. On the DualSense the problem typically appears after 200–400 hours of play — a stick swap costs from €39 with us and is done with high-quality third-party sticks or optionally with Hall-effect sticks (drift-free).
PS5 controller charging port defective — what now?
If the USB-C port on the DualSense wobbles, no longer holds the cable firmly or won't charge at all, the charging port is usually mechanically worn out. Replacing the USB-C port costs from €39. Symptom check: test another USB-C cable — if that wobbles too, the port is the problem, not the cable.
PS5 controller battery no longer lasts long — replacement possible?
Yes. The DualSense battery is a 1,560 mAh lithium-polymer cell. After 1–2 years of intensive use, the runtime drops from the original ~12 hours to 3–4 hours. We replace the battery cell for €39, incl. a new original module and a 6-month warranty.
PS5 controller buttons jam or don't respond — repair?
Classic DualSense problems: Cross button jams, R1/L1 no longer respond properly, R2/L2 (adaptive triggers) are imprecise. The cause is usually a worn button contact or contamination. Button replacement or cleaning costs from €29 (single button) or €39 (multiple buttons).
Are my controller settings kept after the repair?
On the DualSense there are no settings stored in the controller itself — profiles, sensitivity, button assignments are all saved in the PS5. After the repair, pair the controller once and everything is as before.
Can I have the DualSense from the Edge / Pro / Standard repaired?
We repair all DualSense variants: standard DualSense (CFI-ZCT1, CFI-ZCT1W), DualSense Edge with pro features (modular, swappable sticks) and special editions. On the Edge the stick swap is especially easy because of the modular design — workshop swap still €39.
How much does a new DualSense cost compared to the repair?
A new DualSense costs ~€75, the DualSense Edge ~€240. A repair (stick drift €39, battery €39, charging port €39) is significantly cheaper than buying new — and you keep your well-played controller. With the Edge the repair is especially worthwhile.
How long is the warranty on the DualSense repair?
We give a 6-month warranty on all repairs — whether stick, battery, buttons or charging port. In case of a recurring defect we check free of charge and repair again if needed.
Does my DualSense still work on the PC without repair?
If the stick drifts or a button jams, the same problems are also visible on the PC — the problem is hardware. The repair solves the problem on both platforms at once. By the way, Steam supports the DualSense natively incl. adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
My DualSense no longer pairs — repair possible?
Often a reset via the small reset button on the back of the controller helps (the paperclip hole next to the L2 trigger). If that doesn't work, it can be the Bluetooth module — which is soldered onto the mainboard. A diagnostic check (25 EUR, waived on repair) clarifies whether a module swap or a micro-soldering repair on the BT chip is needed.
