How the S9 battery replacement works
On the Galaxy S9 the battery sits under the glued glass back. We therefore open the S9 from behind, release the old cell with heat and isopropyl alcohol, fit the new 3,000 mAh cell and glue the back on again. The whole replacement usually takes 60 to 90 minutes.
- Read the battery
We check charge level, charging behaviour and whether the cell has swollen. You find out whether the battery really is the cause.
- Remove the glass back
The back is warmed and carefully lifted. The wireless charging coil stays in the phone.
- Change the cell
The old cell is held by adhesive strips. We release it without prying on the cell itself and fit the new one.
- Close and test
The back goes on with new adhesive. Then we test wired and wireless charging and the charge display.

The S9 battery in detail: capacity, adhesive, lifespan
The Galaxy S9 contains a firmly glued lithium-ion battery with 3,000 mAh. That is less than the S10 with 3,400 mAh, which is why an aged S9 battery becomes noticeable especially quickly. Anyone using the S9 daily has clearly less runtime after around 500 to 800 charge cycles than at the start.
Can I replace the S9 battery myself?
We advise against it. The glass back breaks easily when lifted without heat, and anyone who punctures the old cell with a tool risks a fire. How to make the new battery last longer
Do not let the S9 regularly drop to 0 per cent, and do not leave it on the cable at 100 per cent all night. Heat does the most damage: leaving the phone on the dashboard in summer ages the cell faster than any use.

Why does my S9 simply switch off at 20 per cent?
The aged cell can no longer deliver enough voltage under higher load, so the S9 shuts down to protect itself. In the cold this happens even earlier. A new battery fixes it in the vast majority of cases.
The battery in my S9 has swollen – what should I do?
Stop charging it and do not press on the back. A swollen battery can heat up. Switch the S9 off and book an appointment; we remove the cell safely and fit a new one.
How long does the battery change on the S9 take?
