Procedure: replacing the Galaxy S9 charging port
On the Galaxy S9 the USB-C port sits on its own board at the bottom edge. We open the S9 via the glass back, replace the whole charging board, close the phone with fresh adhesive and test charging, fast charging and data transfer. This usually takes one to two hours.
- Clean and check
First we clean the port and test with a known-good cable. If the S9 then charges properly, the job is done and you pay no replacement.
- Open the phone
If cleaning does not help, we remove the glass back with heat and release the cover over the charging board.
- Replace the charging board
The old board with the USB-C port comes out, and the new one is fitted and connected.
- Close and test

If the moisture warning appears after a dip in water, more than just the port is usually affected. Then we check the whole phone. If the battery is not lasting either, a joint replacement with the S9 battery replacement makes sense.

The S9 charges via USB-C and supports wired fast charging. Unlike many newer Samsung phones, the S9 still keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack right beside its USB-C port. When replacing the charging board we therefore also check that the bottom microphone records cleanly.

The S9 measures the resistance at the port contacts. If they are corroded or dirty, it reports moisture and blocks cable charging. Wireless charging usually still works then. A new charging board normally fixes the false warning for good.
