The USB-C version from 2024 sits 50 € higher when like new, 45 € with light wear, 30 € with visible wear and 15 € when faulty. On the Max, what lowers the price most is dents and scratches on the aluminium ear cups, flattened or discoloured ear cushions and a stretched headband.

Sell faulty AirPods Max
A cracking ear cup, one side dropping out, a glitchy Digital Crown or moisture inside the ear cups: as long as the AirPods Max were never opened, we buy them as faulty, from 45 €. Cushions, ear cups, headband: what we look at on the Max
AirPods Max show their age on the ear cushions first: fabric that is flattened, discoloured or roughened is the first thing we notice. The cushions attach magnetically, so take them off for cleaning and brush the fabric dry. Then we check the ear cups for dents, the mesh headband, the telescopic arms, noise cancellation, Transparency mode and battery life. Cable and box add nothing.

Remove AirPods Max from your Apple Account and reset them
Remove the AirPods Max in the Find My app under Devices with Remove This Device. To reset them, charge them for a few minutes, then press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown together for about 15 seconds until the light flashes amber, then white. After that they are separated from your account. Apple explains resetting AirPods on its support page.

For AirPods Max with Lightning we pay up to 155 € in like-new condition, up to 125 € with light wear and up to 95 € with visible signs of use. Faulty it is from 45 €. The USB-C version earns 50 € extra in like-new condition and a smaller share of that with wear or a fault, which the calculator above works out for you.
Do AirPods Max with USB-C bring more than with Lightning?
Yes. Like new the gap is 50 €, so we pay up to 205 € for the 2024 AirPods Max with USB-C. With light wear it narrows to 45 €, with visible wear to 30 €. You see which version you have from the charging port at the bottom of the right ear cup. Choose it in the first step of the calculator.

Do worn ear cushions lower the price of AirPods Max?
Yes, they count as wear. If the ear cushions of the AirPods Max are only slightly flattened, they usually stay in the light-wear level, up to 125 €. If they are discoloured, torn or smell, they fall into the visible-wear level, up to 95 €.
Do you buy AirPods Max with condensation in the ear cups?
Yes. Moisture inside the ear cups is a known issue on the AirPods Max and can cause dropouts. If both sides work perfectly, we rate them by condition. If one side fails, we buy them as faulty, from 45 €, as long as they were never opened.
Does the Smart Case have to come with the AirPods Max?
Yes. The Smart Case puts the AirPods Max into low-power mode and belongs to the complete set. Without the case we pay at most the faulty price of 45 €. We do not need cable and box, though.
What do used AirPods Max with dents bring?
Small dents or scratches on the aluminium ear cups quickly catch the eye on used AirPods Max. If you see them at first glance, the headphones bring up to 95 €. Faint marks that only show in the light count as light wear and bring up to 125 €.
How much does the battery count on AirPods Max?
If the AirPods Max still last many hours with noise cancellation, there is no deduction. If they are empty much faster than before, that goes into the checked offer. Tell us roughly in the calculator how long a charge lasts.
How do I clean AirPods Max before selling them?
Take off the ear cushions, which are only held by magnets, and brush the fabric dry. Wipe ear cups and headband with a dry, soft cloth. No liquid should get into the openings of the AirPods Max.

Yes. You get an insured shipping label by email and drop the AirPods Max at the post office, from any province. Pack them in the Smart Case inside a well-padded box so the ear cups are protected.

Does Apple give credit for AirPods Max at trade-in?
On its Austrian trade-in page Apple does not name AirPods as a trade-in device, the AirPods Max included. Apple recycles them for free. With us you get a fixed amount of money for working AirPods Max.
