- Vacuum out splinters cleanly
We carefully detach the old glass remnants from the square module frame and vacuum every splinter out of the recess with fine suction – including between the main camera and tele lens. Nothing may fall onto the image sensor later, otherwise black image dots appear.
- Loosen adhesive frame and seal
The protective glass on the Pixel 4 is bonded with a narrow adhesive strip around the camera square – the same adhesive ring that also holds the IP68 seal. We loosen it with isopropanol at room temperature, without heat. The Soli radar area must not slip during this.
- Set new protective glass + IP68 seal
The exact-match protective glass for the Pixel 4 camera square is set with fresh adhesive, the contact pressure in the frame is controlled. Do Motion Sense and Soli radar still work after the glass swap?
Yes. The Soli radar sits beneath the protective glass in the camera square and is not touched during the glass swap. We explicitly test before return whether Motion Sense (a gesture above the display) and Face Unlock react normally again. If the radar was disturbed beforehand due to splinter contact, it runs flawlessly again after the glass swap.
Is the IP68 protection preserved after the Pixel 4 camera glass repair?
Yes. The adhesive ring around the camera square is part of the IP68 seal on the Pixel 4. During fitting we apply fresh adhesive and check the contact pressure in the frame. What happens if I ignore splinters in the camera square?
Loose splinters wander through the module housing while typing, shaking or making calls and can damage the autofocus motor of the main camera or scratch the tele lens. The Soli radar also reacts sensitively to glass fragments. EUR 19.90 then turns into EUR 59 camera repair.
