Remove the internals
Display, battery, mainboard and camera are carefully released from the old polycarbonate housing. The Pixel 4a has no IP protection — so we work with different adhesive techniques than on modern Pixel models.

Replace the housing completely
Since the back and frame form one unit, the entire polycarbonate housing goes in new. Buttons, antenna strips and the SIM slot are transferred in the original colour (Just Black or Barely Blue).

Function test and return
We test buttons, the USB-C port, speakers and display. Then you get your Pixel 4a back with 6 months warranty.
From the rest of Austria you can send the Pixel 4a in by post — repair and return usually take 1-3 working days in total. Since the Pixel 4a does not support wireless charging, the otherwise usual Qi-coil check is omitted.

Reviewers were thrilled: camera quality at flagship level, compact form factor, clean Android. What many overlook today — Google left out IP protection on the Pixel 4a and also built in no wireless charging. The housing is made entirely of polycarbonate, without a glass back.
For the repair that is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Advantage: polycarbonate does not splinter as sharply as glass. Disadvantage: when the housing breaks, it is a single piece — frame and back hang together. A crack therefore often radiates to the edge of the display. Since the Pixel 4a has no official IP rating, after the housing swap we do not have to restore expensive water resistance. We work with thinner adhesive tape at the display edge and save ourselves the elaborate sealing procedure that is usual on modern Pixels. The absence of wireless charging also simplifies things — no Qi coil that we have to protect during installation. Does the Pixel 4a have wireless charging?
No. The Pixel 4a has no inductive charging — Google only introduced this feature with the Pixel 5 and Pixel 6a. We therefore do not have to protect a Qi coil during the housing swap, which makes the repair somewhat simpler.

No, the housings are not identical. The Pixel 4a is 5.81 inch, the Pixel 4a 5G has 6.2 inch and different button positions. When ordering we explicitly specify Pixel 4a (LTE) — please tell us which variant you have when booking.
Is the housing swap worthwhile on the old Pixel 4a?

Is the IP rating preserved after the housing swap?
The Pixel 4a never had an official IP rating — so it is protected neither against water nor against dust. The repair does not change that. We still recommend keeping the device dry and clean.
Can I just bring my Pixel 4a into the shop?
Reparo has no walk-in operation, so that is not possible. Instead you book an appointment and we collect the Pixel 4a via the pickup service in Vienna — or you send it in by post.

What if there is also water damage besides the housing?
Since the Pixel 4a has no IP rating, water gets in more easily. In that case we first check the mainboard for corrosion and discuss with you whether the housing swap alone makes sense or whether further repairs are added.
