Which speaker module goes into the Pixel 5?
On the Pixel 5 we clearly distinguish between two parts: the main speaker at the bottom of the frame and the under-display earpiece, built behind the OLED, which vibrates the glass to produce sound. What makes the Pixel 5 special during a speaker swap
The Pixel 5 has a technical quirk that sets it apart from almost all other smartphones: an under-display speaker for the earpiece. The sound source for calls does not sit in a classic slot above the display, but behind the OLED panel itself. The display vibrates minimally and transmits the sound to your ear. It looks elegant – but in a repair it means: with an earpiece fault the display has to be released, which is far more effort than a normal speaker at the top of the frame.
With the main speaker at the bottom it is simpler. It sits classically at the lower frame next to the USB-C connector and is accessible through the back.
