The third-generation AirPods arrived in 2021 with short stems, spatial audio and sweat resistance. The case first came with MagSafe, and from 2022 also with Lightning. Since the AirPods 4 appeared, they bring less every year. If both earbuds still work, now is a good moment to sell.

For third-generation AirPods with MagSafe case and both earbuds we pay up to 40 € like new, up to 35 € with light wear and up to 25 € with visible scratches. Faulty and never opened, they bring from 10 €. With the Lightning case it is 5 € more when like new, though because we round to full 5 € the lead can disappear with light wear. After four years, the battery life of the earbuds is what decides whether AirPods 3 stay at the top or count as faulty.

Faulty AirPods 3: from 10 € instead of the bin
If an earbud is empty after a few minutes, one side sounds muffled or the case no longer charges, we buy the AirPods 3 as faulty, from 10 €. Both earbuds and the case must be included, and nothing may have been opened. Without the case you get at most that amount; we do not buy single earbuds. And their batteries do not end up in household waste.
MagSafe or Lightning: how we rate AirPods 3
You can tell which case you have by charging it: the MagSafe case snaps magnetically onto the charging puck and also charges on a Qi mat, while the Lightning case from 2022 only charges by cable. We test sound, the force sensors on the stems, the microphones and runtime. Clean the mesh with a soft, dry brush before shipping; we do not need box or cable.

Sign out and reset AirPods 3
Remove the AirPods 3 in the Find My app under Devices with Remove This Device, and on your iPhone under Bluetooth with Forget This Device. Then both earbuds in the case, lid closed for 30 seconds, open it and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds until the light flashes amber and then white. Why do AirPods 3 with the Lightning case bring 5 € more?
The Lightning-case version is the later 2022 edition and trades a little higher on the second-hand market, so we pay 5 € more for it, up to 45 € like new. You pick which case your AirPods 3 have in the first step of the calculator.
How do I recognise third-generation AirPods?
By the short stems and the absence of silicone tips. In your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings the info icon shows the exact name. AirPods 2 have longer stems, AirPods 4 a case without a button.
Where can I sell used AirPods 3?

Do you buy AirPods 3 with a weak battery?
Yes. If the AirPods 3 last clearly shorter than before, they drop a level. If they are empty after a few minutes, we buy them as faulty, from 10 €. Tell us honestly in the calculator how long a charge still lasts.
Will you take AirPods 3 with one earbud missing?
No, we do not buy single earbuds or sets with only one side. We need the AirPods 3 with both earbuds. If only the case is missing, you get at most the faulty price of 10 € for both earbuds.
What do AirPods 3 with a scratched case bring?
With clearly visible scratches on the case, AirPods 3 bring up to 25 €, with faint marks up to 35 €, both with the MagSafe case. A wobbly lid or a broken magnet counts as a fault.
Do I need to clean AirPods 3 before selling them?
Please do. Wipe earbuds and case with a dry, soft cloth and brush the mesh carefully with a soft, dry brush. Because AirPods 3 have no tips, dirt sits right on the mesh and is noticed during the inspection.
Is sending in AirPods 3 free?
Yes, from all of Austria. You get an insured shipping label by email and drop the AirPods 3 at the nearest post office. Shipping costs you nothing.
What does it cost if I reject the checked price for my AirPods 3?
10 € for return shipping. Because the AirPods 3 themselves only bring up to 45 €, we explain especially carefully beforehand what we found. Sending them in stays free.
How do I separate AirPods 3 from my Apple Account?
In the Find My app choose the AirPods 3 under Devices and tap Remove This Device. Then reset them with the button on the case. While they are in Find My, nobody can connect them anew, and we cannot buy them.
How are AirPods 3 paid out?
By PayPal or bank transfer, around 48 hours after the inspection. We deliberately do not pay cash, not even for small amounts. Every purchase runs on a written contract.
Can I trade in AirPods 3 at Apple?
Apple does not name AirPods as a trade-in device on its Austrian trade-in page and recycles them for free. There is usually no credit for them. With us there is a fixed amount for working AirPods 3.
Do you buy AirPods 3 that got wet?
AirPods 3 are protected against sweat and splashes, so a rain shower usually does them no harm. If they sound muffled after a wash or one side fails, we buy them as faulty, from 10 €, with both earbuds and case.
