The Pixel 3a XL came to market in May 2019 as the larger of two a-models — 6.0-inch OLED, USB-C, a 3,700 mAh battery and a polycarbonate back. It was the last Pixel XL made of plastic before Google switched entirely to metal-framed, glass-backed designs from the Pixel 4a onwards. It's exactly this hard plastic that makes the 3a XL so distinctive: it feels less fragile than glass, but falls leave visible cracks and dents.
A common misconception: plastic doesn't break — unfortunately it does. In hard impacts splinters burst from the corners, the paint flakes and the frame warps slightly. As soon as that happens, the display no longer presses cleanly onto the adhesive surface and can lift at the edges. By then at the latest, a complete housing replacement makes sense.
Does the Pixel 3a XL get IP protection or wireless charging after the replacement?
No. The Pixel 3a XL has no IP protection and no inductive charging from the factory — both features only arrived with the Pixel 4. We can't retrofit these properties because the hardware simply isn't built for them. What we deliver is a visually and mechanically flawless housing again.
