Laptop trade-in value by brand and series

The amounts apply to the usual configuration of each series with a German keyboard layout and the original charger: 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD for older series, 16 GB and 512 GB for series from Intel’s 12th generation and for gaming laptops. More storage, a stronger processor or a Type Cover with a Surface Pro raise the amount; the calculator shows exactly how much.

A ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 brings up to 235 € with us in like-new condition, up to 195 € with light marks, up to 145 € with visible scratches or dents, and from 70 € if it is faulty but has never been opened. The highest amount we currently pay is up to 665 € for a Surface Laptop 6 or 7. With a Windows laptop, three things push the price down most: a battery below 80 percent capacity, a missing charger and an older processor generation.

As of September 2026, non-binding estimates. Newer series such as the ThinkPad T14 Gen 4, the XPS 13 Plus or gaming laptops with an RTX 40 card are assessed individually: you get an offer after inspection instead of a fixed amount.

Which laptops we buy

From Lenovo we take the ThinkPad T, X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga, E and L series, plus IdeaPad 1, 3 and 5, Slim 3 and 5, Flex 5 as well as Yoga Slim 7, Yoga 7 and Yoga 9. If you want to sell a Lenovo laptop, the series is usually printed on the lid or next to the keyboard, and the generation is on the label underneath, for example “T14 Gen 2”. Selling an old laptop still pays off from Intel’s 8th generation: an old ThinkPad T480 or T490 brings up to 155 €.

To sell a Dell laptop, read the model number off the bottom: Latitude from the 8th generation, the XPS 13 from 7390 to 9310 and the XPS 15 from the 9560. From Asus we take the ZenBook 14 and the VivoBook 14 and 15, so you can sell an Asus laptop with us too. Laptops with a Ryzen processor are welcome as long as the series is on the list.

Sell your Surface

For Microsoft the list covers the Surface Laptop 3 to 7, the Surface Laptop Go 1 to 3 and the Surface Pro models 7 to 11. If you sell a Surface Pro, include the Type Cover: in like-new condition it adds 30 €. A Surface Laptop 3 brings up to 165 €. A Surface Laptop 2 is not on the list, so we assess it individually after the inspection. If you have an iPad rather than a Surface, its prices are on sell your iPad.

Sell a gaming laptop: the graphics card decides

With a gaming laptop it is the graphics card that counts, not the logo. That is why we price Lenovo Legion, HP Omen and Victus, Asus ROG and TUF, Acer Nitro and Predator, MSI and Dell G together: up to 275 € with a GTX 1650, GTX 1660 Ti or RTX 2060 to 2080, and up to 440 € with an RTX 3050 to 3080. An RTX 3070 or 3080 adds 15 percent, an RTX 3050 takes off 15 percent. In the calculator you simply pick “Gaming laptop” and then the graphics card. If the large gaming charger is missing, we deduct 40 €.

Other brands and series

An Acer Swift or Aspire can be submitted through the calculator as well. We name the amount after the inspection, because the market value of these series is often close to our lower limit. The same applies to Toshiba, Fujitsu, Samsung or Sony Vaio laptops: choose “Other brand” in the calculator and describe the device.

Laptops we do not buy

A laptop with an Intel processor of the 7th generation or older is not officially supported by Windows 11 and hardly resells, so we do not quote a price for it. The only exception on our list is the XPS 15 9560, which remains in demand thanks to its strong specification. Laptops whose used market value is below 150 € also get no fixed price. A device with a Celeron or Pentium, or with only 4 GB of RAM, is assessed individually after the inspection.

A laptop with an unknown BIOS or supervisor password, or with an active company lock, cannot be set up again, not even by us. We can only buy such a device once the lock has been removed. If the calculator ends up below 25 € after all deductions, we offer free data wiping and recycling instead of an amount. In Vienna, every MA 48 recycling centre also takes an old laptop without resale value free of charge.

What decides your laptop’s price

The processor generation matters most: a ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 with a 12th-generation Intel brings up to 345 € like new, the almost identical-looking Gen 1 only up to 205 €. You find the processor number under Settings › System › About, in the line “Processor”: in i5-1135G7 the digits 11 follow the hyphen, so it is the 11th generation.

An i7 or Ryzen 7 instead of an i5 adds 10 percent. For storage we add 10 € in like-new condition for a 512 GB SSD where 256 GB is usual, 55 € for 1 TB and 120 € for 2 TB. 16 GB RAM instead of 8 GB adds 15 €, 32 GB or more adds 30 €. We deduct for a battery below 80 percent capacity (30 €, 50 € for Surface and gaming laptops), for a missing charger (20 €) and for a keyboard layout that is not German (10 percent).

For the display, the finding decides: scratches on the lid are a matter of condition, whereas dead pixels, lines or a cracked screen make the laptop a faulty device. The same applies to a keyboard with missing or dead keys and to a laptop that no longer starts Windows. We then pay around 30 percent of the like-new amount, as long as the case has never been opened. So you can sell a broken or damaged laptop with us too.

How to sell a laptop safely: wipe your data and reset Windows

Before you sell your laptop, back up your files to an external drive or OneDrive. Then remove the device from your Microsoft account under account.microsoft.com in the “Devices” section and sign out in Windows. If BitLocker or device encryption is on, turn it off so that we can test the SSD. Finally, choose “Reset this PC” with the option “Remove everything”. You do this reset yourself before the parcel goes out.

In Windows 11 you find the reset under Settings › System › Recovery, in Windows 10 under Update & Security › Recovery. When asked whether to clean the drive, choose the thorough option: it takes longer but overwrites the data completely. You remove a BIOS password in the BIOS menu, which usually opens with F1, F2 or Del at start-up. Microsoft explains the steps on support.microsoft.com.

Selling company and leased laptops

Many ThinkPads, EliteBooks and Latitudes come from companies and end up in a private drawer after a hardware refresh. We are happy to buy them, but only without a company lock: the laptop has to be removed from Intune or Autopilot, Computrace or Absolute has to be released, and no unknown BIOS password may be set. There is no deduction for a Windows volume licence. A leased device belongs to the leasing company until the end of the contract and may only be sold after that.

Where to sell a used laptop: privately, online or to a workshop?

Selling privately on willhaben often gets you the highest amount, but you deal with viewings, haggling and the risk of fake payment confirmations. Online buyers work with calculators like ours, yet not all of them take Windows laptops: according to its own sell page, refurbed currently buys only phones. Apple’s Austrian trade-in page lists Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch; Windows laptops are not listed there, and Apple gives credit or a gift card rather than money.
