Every MacBook we fit a new battery into

Close the lid and turn the machine over. Under the engraved name there is a small code beginning with A, and that code tells us both the generation and which of the two prices applies to you.

MacBook Air 13 Intel MacBook Air 13 M1 MacBook Air 13 M2 MacBook Air 13 M3 MacBook Air 13 M4 A3240 MacBook Air 15 M2 A2941 MacBook Air 15 M3 MacBook Air 15 M4 A3241 MacBook Pro 13 Intel MacBook Pro 13 M1 and M2 A2338 MacBook Pro 14 A2442 to A3401 MacBook Pro 15 Intel A1707 A1990 MacBook Pro 16 Intel A2141 MacBook Pro 16 A2485 to A3403 MacBook 12 Retina

The code is rubbed off or unreadable? Tell us the screen size, how many sockets are on each side and roughly when you bought it, and we place the machine in two minutes. Book a slot once we have confirmed the price.

The two price bands, and what sits in each

There is no sliding scale here and no surcharge that appears once the machine is open. Your MacBook is in one of two bands, and which one depends purely on the A-number underneath.

* Diagnostic check 25 EUR, waived as soon as you approve the battery work. Where liquid has been in the machine the diagnosis is 49 EUR, because it has to be stripped completely.

What happens after you call

  • You read out the A-number, we name the band and the price on the spot
  • Courier collection in Vienna from €14.90 with the return trip inside it, or insured post from any province
  • Base plate off, battery connector disconnected first, each cell released over its strips
  • One full charge and discharge cycle, then we show you the measured capacity and cycle count

What a MacBook battery replacement costs in Vienna

A MacBook battery replacement is €179 as a fixed price at Reparo, covering Air and Pro up to and including the M3 generations. Five machines sit above it at €219: the Air 13 M4 with A3240, the Air 15 M4 with A3241, the Pro 14 M4 with A3112 or A3401 and the Pro 16 M4 with A3403. The figure includes cells, fitting, a full calibration cycle, disposal of the old pack and six months of warranty. Nothing is added afterwards.

Read the A-number before you call and the conversation takes a minute rather than five. It is printed in small type on the underside, below the engraved model name, and it is the only reliable way to tell two visually identical machines apart. A 13-inch Pro from 2019 and one from 2020 look the same from above and take different cells underneath. Purchase year alone has led plenty of people to the wrong part, which is why we ask for the code rather than the year.

Why a MacBook holds several cells instead of one

Anyone who has seen an Air opened expects a single flat slab under the base. In a Pro there are instead several narrow cells lying side by side in the bottom shell, each glued down on its own and secured with pull strips. The 13-inch carries three, the 14 and 16-inch carry six. Two consequences follow for you. The swap takes longer, because every cell is released individually, and a single failing cell is enough to push the base plate visibly outward.

The three signs that it is time

First the runtime. A machine that used to manage a working day and now hunts a socket after two hours has lost its capacity, whatever the percentage claims. Second the system message: under Settings, Battery it reads Service Recommended or Replace Battery. Third the sudden shutdown at thirty or forty per cent, where the aged cell collapses under load before the gauge notices. Any of those together with a base plate that no longer sits flat means the machine should be opened soon rather than watched.

A MacBook that rocks on the desk is a deadline, not a quirk

As cells age they generate gas and expand. Glued flat into the bottom shell they have nowhere to go, so they push the aluminium outward. You notice it as a machine that wobbles, a trackpad that only clicks near the edge, or a lid that no longer closes level. From that point please stop charging it and stop carrying it compressed in a full backpack. A swollen pack is removed, not observed, and it does not belong in a postal parcel either.

How many cycles a MacBook cell is built for, and how to read yours

Apple quotes roughly 1,000 charge cycles before capacity falls to about 80 per cent, which someone charging daily reaches in something like four years. You can check it yourself in under a minute: hold the Option key, click the Apple menu, open System Information and choose Power. Cycle count and condition are listed there. A freshly fitted pack reports fewer than ten cycles, and we show you that screen together before the machine goes back to you.

When it turns out not to be the battery at all

Roughly one machine in five that arrives here suspected of a dead cell has something else wrong. If it will not charge at all, the socket or the charging board is the usual culprit at €189. If a Pro becomes loud and slow under load, the cooling is clogged and a clean starts at €79, though note that the Airs with an M chip have no fan at all and therefore never need one. Everything for your model is collected on the MacBook repair page.

Is a new cell worth it on an older MacBook?

The honest arithmetic: a used 13-inch Pro from the Touch Bar years trades at roughly €400 to €600, a 16-inch from 2021 well above that. A €179 battery buys two to three more years of ordinary use with no data migration, no reinstalled software and no licences to reactivate. Below about €300 of residual value it gets tight and we say so. On a 14 or 16-inch machine there is barely a calculation, because a comparable new one costs several times the repair.

Three ways your MacBook reaches our bench

Inside Vienna our driver collects the machine from your flat or office and returns it after the swap, both trips covered by the zone price from €14.90. From any Austrian province you can send it by post with insured return shipping already included. Or you choose a fixed slot and hand it over in person in the 22nd district. There is no open counter to walk into, so each handover is arranged beforehand and the machine goes straight onto the bench.

More on the routes: pickup and delivery, the send-in service and the repair process step by step. If the picture is damaged too, continue at MacBook screen replacement; for a Windows machine the laptop battery page is the right one.

MacBook battery questions our customers ask

What does a MacBook battery replacement cost in Vienna?

€179 as a fixed price for every Air and Pro up to and including the M3 generations, Intel machines included. The figure contains the cells, releasing the old glued pack, fitting, a full calibration cycle, disposal and six months of warranty. Nothing is added later, not even if more cells turn out to be glued down than expected. The M4 machines are the one exception at €219.

Which MacBook models cost €219 for a battery instead of €179?

Five machines, all from the M4 generation: the Air 13 with A3240, the Air 15 with A3241, the Pro 14 with A3112 or A3401 and the Pro 16 with A3403. Their cells have only been on the market since 2024 and cost noticeably more to buy in, while the bench work is practically identical. As soon as sourcing normalises we pass that on and lower the figure again.

What warranty do I get on a new MacBook battery?

Six months on the cells and on the fitting, valid anywhere in Austria including machines that reached us by post. If capacity drops noticeably in that window, or macOS starts reporting a battery fault again, we replace it at no cost to you. Excluded are falls, spills and anyone else opening the machine afterwards: a base plate prised off by a third party ends the cover.

What does the diagnostic check cost if the MacBook battery is healthy?

The check is 25 EUR and it comes off the invoice entirely as soon as you approve a repair with us. About one machine in five arrives suspected of a dead cell and leaves with a different diagnosis, most often the charging board at €189. You get the separate figure before anything is touched. Where liquid has been involved the diagnosis is 49 EUR, because the machine is stripped completely.

macOS says Service Recommended under Battery. What does that mean?

It means the system has measured the pack and found its capacity or its internal resistance outside the range it expects. The machine keeps working, but the message will not clear by itself and the runtime keeps shrinking. It is a reliable signal rather than a nag. We measure the actual figures during the check, and if they confirm what macOS says, a new pack at €179 puts the reading back to normal.

My MacBook rocks on the desk and the trackpad barely clicks. Why?

A cell has produced gas and expanded, and because it is glued flat into the bottom shell it pushes the aluminium outward. The machine then sits unevenly and the trackpad only depresses near its edge. Please stop charging it, do not carry it pressed inside a full bag and contact us quickly. A swollen pack gets removed rather than monitored, and it should not travel by post either.

How many charge cycles does a MacBook battery last, and how do I read mine?

Apple quotes around 1,000 cycles before capacity falls to roughly 80 per cent, which daily charging reaches in about four years. Checking yours takes a minute: hold the Option key, click the Apple menu, open System Information and select Power. Cycle count and condition are printed there. A newly fitted pack reports fewer than ten cycles, and we show you that screen before the machine leaves.

Do you fit genuine Apple cells in a MacBook?

We fit tested cells at the full rated capacity of your model, not refurbished packs pulled from scrap machines. Genuine parts straight from Apple go to authorised service partners only, and we say that plainly instead of claiming an origin we do not have. After fitting we show you rated capacity, measured capacity and cycle count on screen, so you can read the quality rather than take our word for it.

Is the new MacBook battery calibrated before I collect it?

Yes, and that step is why the job takes longer than the screwdriver work suggests. After fitting, the machine runs one full charge and one controlled discharge so the firmware learns the real capacity of the new pack. Without it the percentage display is wrong for the first weeks and jumps in large steps. We then open System Information with you and show what the fresh pack reports.

How long does a MacBook battery replacement take?

A 13-inch machine with three cells is frequently finished the same day. For a 14 or 16-inch Pro we plan a full working day, because six cells are individually glued into the base and each is eased out over its pull strips rather than levered. The calibration cycle cannot be shortened either. With courier collection, most customers have the machine back on the second working day.

Does a battery swap on a MacBook delete anything from the drive?

No. Storage is never touched during a battery job, nothing is reset and nothing reinstalled. On the Apple Silicon machines the storage sits fixed on the logic board anyway, and on the Intel models it is a separate module we do not go near. You get the machine back exactly as you handed it over. A current backup is still sensible, because storage can fail without warning.

Liquid reached the MacBook battery. Is the cell scrap?

Not necessarily, but it has to be inspected before anything is charged again. Liquid runs down from the keyboard and pools exactly where the cells and their connector sit, so corrosion on those contacts and on the charging circuit is the usual outcome. We strip the machine, clean the board and measure before deciding. Board cleaning starts at €99, the liquid diagnosis is 49 EUR, and rice helps with none of it.

Do you collect a MacBook in Vienna for the battery swap?

Yes, in every district. Our driver takes the machine from your home or your office and brings it back after the work, with both journeys inside the zone price of €14.90, €17.90 or €18.90. Because a 14 or 16-inch Pro needs a full working day plus the calibration cycle, expect the machine back on the second working day rather than the same evening.

Can I post a MacBook in from another province for a new battery?

Yes, from all of Austria, with insured return shipping included in the price. Shut it down, pad it properly and add a note with your name, number, the A-number and the runtime you currently get. We check it, ring you with the price and only then start. One exception: a machine with a visibly bulging base plate does not belong in the post, so call and we arrange the transport differently.

Can I hand the MacBook over in person for the battery change?

Yes, at a slot you book beforehand, in the 22nd district. We run no open workshop with a counter, so working by appointment is what guarantees somebody is there to receive your machine and put it straight on the bench. You get the exact address with your confirmation. Coming in person is optional: the courier in Vienna and the postal route reach the same workshop at the same price.
