PS4 Pro Repair Vienna
Your PS4 Pro roaring like a jet engine, throttling down during 4K play, the HDMI port wobbling or the disc drive jamming on Blu-ray games? PS4 Pro repair Vienna — pricing, process and what makes the Pro different
Sony launched the PlayStation 4 Pro in November 2016 as the muscle version of the PS4: a 4.2 TFLOPS GPU, 4K and HDR output, Boost Mode for older titles and HDMI 2.0. All that extra horsepower comes at a cost — the Pro runs hotter and louder than any other PS4, and its fan is infamous for spinning up to a jet-engine roar once dust and dried thermal paste choke the cooling. The console packs a larger three-layer chassis with supplemental cooling to cope, but that also means there is more to clean and more heat to manage. Reparo Vienna opens Pro consoles every week and knows exactly where the heat builds up.
Everything runs by pickup service or send-in — we don’t take walk-ins. You tell us the symptom, we either collect the Pro from your Vienna address or you mail it in from anywhere in Austria. Pickup and delivery starts at EUR 7.90 by district. After diagnosis you receive a written quote by email and nothing is touched until you approve it. English-speaking team for Vienna’s expats, exchange students and diplomats — no language stress about your console.
PS4 Pro repair cost Vienna — transparent pricing
Pricing matches the standard PS4 because the parts are largely shared. The HDMI 2.0 port swap costs €99, a DualShock 4 stick drift fix starts at €39, and the overheating service — the Pro’s most-requested job — is €79 including fresh thermal paste and a full cooling clean. Heavier faults such as WLOD (from €89) or a power supply replacement (€99) are quoted in detail after the bench diagnosis. Every price is confirmed in writing before any soldering iron is switched on. The diagnostic check is EUR 25 and is waived completely once you approve the repair.
Why the Pro overheats more than a standard PS4
The Pro’s GPU draws far more power than the original PS4, so the same dried-out thermal paste that merely makes a standard console warm will push a Pro into hard shutdowns. Unlike the PS5, the PS4 Pro uses conventional thermal paste rather than liquid metal, which makes a repaste a routine, low-risk job for us. The Pro also keeps the user-replaceable 2.5″ HDD bay and the same DualShock 4 controller as every other PS4 — so storage upgrades and controller fixes are identical. If your Pro is throttling, shutting down or roaring under load, a €79 cooling service with new thermal paste is almost always the answer.
Frequently asked questions about PS4 Pro repair Vienna
What does PS4 Pro repair cost in Vienna?
Pro pricing matches the standard PS4 because most parts are shared. HDMI port: €99. DualShock 4 stick drift: from €39. Disc drive (KEM-490 laser): €89. Overheating with fresh thermal paste and cleaning: €79. WLOD: from €89. Power supply: €99. Water damage: from €49. Cleaning: €59. Hard drive swap: from €49. Every price is confirmed in writing after diagnosis, before any work starts. The diagnostic check is EUR 25 and is waived completely if you proceed.
Why is the PS4 Pro so much louder than a normal PS4?
The Pro’s 4.2 TFLOPS GPU produces far more heat than the standard PS4, so its larger fan ramps up to a jet-engine roar the moment dust packs the heatsink or the thermal paste dries out. That extra heat load is exactly why Pro consoles come to us for cooling work more than any other PS4. A €79 deep clean with fresh thermal paste brings the noise right back down in the vast majority of cases.
My PS4 Pro shuts down during 4K games — what causes that?
Sudden shutdowns under 4K or HDR load are almost always thermal. The Pro’s GPU runs hardest in 4K, so if the dried thermal paste and dust-clogged cooling can no longer move that heat, the console protects itself by powering off. We strip the Pro down, clean the heatsink and three-layer chassis, check the supplemental cooling and apply fresh thermal paste (€79). If shutdowns continue after a repaste, we test the power supply and board next.
Does the PS4 Pro use liquid metal like the PS5?
No. The PS4 Pro uses conventional thermal paste between the APU and heatsink, not the liquid metal Sony introduced with the PS5. That actually works in your favour — a Pro repaste is a routine, low-risk job with no special masking or containment needed, unlike the careful liquid-metal handling a PS5 demands. We use a high-grade thermal compound rated for the Pro’s heat output.
How is a PS4 Pro repair different from a standard PS4 repair?
The procedures overlap heavily — same DualShock 4 controller, same HDMI 2.0 port style, same KEM-490 disc laser and the same 2.5″ HDD bay. The differences are inside: the Pro has a bigger three-layer chassis, a more powerful GPU and a larger cooling assembly with supplemental airflow, so there is more to disassemble and more heat to manage on a repaste. Prices are the same as the standard PS4; the Pro simply takes a little longer to open and reassemble.
Can I send my PS4 Pro in by post instead of using the pickup service?
Yes — the send-in route works from anywhere in Austria. The Pro is heavier and bulkier than a standard PS4, so pack it carefully (original box if you have it, otherwise plenty of padding all round the chassis), add a short note with the symptom and your contact details, and ship it insured. We message you on arrival with the diagnosis and a quote. After approval and repair, we ship the Pro back insured at no extra cost — return shipping is part of the price.
My PS4 Pro disc drive won’t read games — what should I do?
The Pro uses the same KEM-490 drive family as the standard PS4, so the usual causes apply: a stretched drive belt that won’t pull the disc in (service €89), a failed laser pickup that can’t read Blu-ray, or a full drive assembly that needs swapping. We test with Blu-ray, DVD and an actual PS4 game disc to confirm, with a 2–3 hour bench window. Quick test before sending: blow compressed air through the disc slot — occasionally that alone clears a jam.
What is the WLOD error on the PS4 Pro?
WLOD stands for “White Light of Death”. The Pro’s power LED glows white but the console never reaches the home screen, or it boot-loops and shuts off after a few seconds. Common causes: a failing power supply that can’t feed the Pro’s hungrier GPU, a broken HDMI subboard, corroded memory or a damaged APU solder joint from years of heavy thermal cycling. The diagnosis pinpoints the exact cause — repair starts from €89, confirmed in writing first.
Will my save games survive a PS4 Pro repair?
For most hardware repairs (HDMI, controller, fan and thermal paste, disc drive, cleaning, power supply) the Pro’s internal 2.5″ HDD stays untouched and every save and installed game is fine. For mainboard work or severe WLOD cases the HDD may need to be temporarily disconnected, which we discuss with you upfront. PS Plus cloud saves are safe regardless — sync before drop-off if your Pro still powers on.
Will my Sony warranty still be valid after a third-party PS4 Pro repair?
The Sony manufacturer warranty generally voids the moment any independent shop opens the console — that applies to every third-party service, not just Reparo. In return you get a 6-month warranty from us covering the work done and every part installed. The Pro launched in late 2016, so virtually every Pro out there is well past its original Sony warranty window anyway.
Can I upgrade the PS4 Pro hard drive to an SSD?
Yes — the Pro keeps the same user-replaceable 2.5″ SATA HDD bay as every PS4, and a SATA SSD upgrade noticeably cuts in-game loading on the Pro’s faster hardware. We install the SSD, reinstall the system software and, where possible, help restore your saves from PS Plus cloud or by cloning the old drive. Labour from €49; recommended drives include the Crucial MX500 or Samsung 870 EVO in 1 TB or 2 TB. Total upgrade roughly €110–160 depending on drive choice.
Can a PS4 Pro be saved after a liquid spill?
It depends on how long the liquid sat on the board and which components took the hit. We clean the Pro mainboard in an ultrasonic bath, check the HDMI port, power rails and every connector, and replace anything corroded. The sooner you ship it in, the higher the success rate. Crucial: do not switch the Pro on before it reaches us — powering up a wet board usually turns a recoverable case into scrap. Recovery from €49.
My PS4 Pro won’t turn on at all — what could it be?
Three main causes on the Pro: a faulty power supply that can’t feed the bigger GPU (no standby LED, replacement €99), a broken power-button subboard (no response to the touch button, from €79), or mainboard damage needing micro-soldering on the APU power rails. The diagnostic check (EUR 25, waived if you proceed) pinpoints which. Quick check first: try a different mains cable and hold the power button for 7 seconds — sometimes the PSU is just stuck in protection mode.
Why does PS4 Pro stick drift happen and can it be fixed for good?
The Pro uses the same DualShock 4 as every PS4, so drift has the same cause: the carbon track on the ALPS potentiometer inside the stick module wears down and outputs phantom movement. We swap the worn module for a fresh ALPS-compatible part — this restores a clean centre position and typically lasts another 2–3 years. For a permanent fix, Hall-effect stick modules are available on request and don’t suffer mechanical wear at all.
Do I really need to send the PS4 Pro in, or can I bring it to the shop?
Reparo runs without walk-in — there is no customer access at the workshop. You either book the pickup service (we collect across all 23 Vienna districts, from EUR 7.90 by district) or use the send-in option from anywhere in Austria with insured return shipping included. Both are equally fast: 1–2 working days of actual repair plus courier time. The no-walk-in setup keeps our overhead low and your Pro repair affordable.
