The Pro’s 4.2 TFLOPS GPU produces far more heat than the standard PS4, so its larger fan ramps up to a jet-engine roar the moment dust packs the heatsink or the thermal paste dries out. That extra heat load is exactly why Pro consoles come to us for cooling work more than any other PS4. Sudden shutdowns under 4K or HDR load are almost always thermal. That actually works in your favour — a Pro repaste is a routine, low-risk job with no special masking or containment needed, unlike the careful liquid-metal handling a PS5 demands. We use a high-grade thermal compound rated for the Pro’s heat output.

The procedures overlap heavily — same DualShock 4 controller, same HDMI 2.0 port style, same KEM-490 disc laser and the same 2.5″ HDD bay. The differences are inside: the Pro has a bigger three-layer chassis, a more powerful GPU and a larger cooling assembly with supplemental airflow, so there is more to disassemble and more heat to manage on a repaste. Prices are the same as the standard PS4; the Pro simply takes a little longer to open and reassemble.

The Pro uses the same KEM-490 drive family as the standard PS4, so the usual causes apply: a stretched drive belt that won’t pull the disc in (service €89), a failed laser pickup that can’t read Blu-ray, or a full drive assembly that needs swapping. WLOD stands for “White Light of Death”. The Pro’s power LED glows white but the console never reaches the home screen, or it boot-loops and shuts off after a few seconds. For most hardware repairs (HDMI, controller, fan and thermal paste, disc drive, cleaning, power supply) the Pro’s internal 2.5″ HDD stays untouched and every save and installed game is fine. For mainboard work or severe WLOD cases the HDD may need to be temporarily disconnected, which we discuss with you upfront. PS Plus cloud saves are safe regardless — sync before drop-off if your Pro still powers on.

The Sony manufacturer warranty generally voids the moment any independent shop opens the console — that applies to every third-party service, not just Reparo. In return you get a 6-month warranty from us covering the work done and every part installed. Yes — the Pro keeps the same user-replaceable 2.5″ SATA HDD bay as every PS4, and a SATA SSD upgrade noticeably cuts in-game loading on the Pro’s faster hardware.
